Alassane Dramane Ouattara New President of Ivory Coast
Alassane Dramane Ouattara (French pronunciation: [alasan wataʁa], Arabic الحسن وطرة Arabic pronunciation: [ælħæsæn wɑtˤɑrɐ]; born 1 January 1942) is an Ivorian politician, president of the Rally of the Republicans (RDR), and the current President of Côte d'Ivoire. As the RDR leader and candidate, he was a candidate in the 2010 Ivorian presidential election, where he was one of the top two candidates in the first round of voting. In the second round, he faced incumbent Laurent Gbagbo; Ouattara asserted that he won the election. Most sovereign authorities outside Côte d'Ivoire, including the United Nations Security Council, accepted the validity of Ouattara's victory and recognized him as the new President-elect of the country. Gbagbo had not accepted this claim, leading to a major political crisis in the nation, which ended with Gbagbo's capture and arrest on 11 April 2011.
Fundamentalist Secular Assad Orders Syrian Navy Ships to Bombard Port City of Latakia
The crimes of seculars such as Bashar Assad are unprecedented. Although some tout secularism as navirna in real life it is hell. In yet another escalation of its crackdown on dissent, the Syrian government unleashed navy vessels, tanks and a mix of soldiers, security forces and paramilitary fighters against the port city of Latakia on Sunday, killing at least 25 people, including three children, activists and residents said. President Obama spoke in recent days with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia and Prime Minister David Cameron of Britain. Each declared the necessity for Syria to stop killing protesters, who so far have remained largely peaceful, but none of the leaders has yet demanded that Mr. Assad step down. Shame on them. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/15/world/middleeast/15syria.html
