Alassane Dramane Ouattara New President of Ivory Coast

Alassane Dramane Ouattara (French pronunciation: [alasan wataʁa], Arabic الحسن وطرة Arabic pronunciation: [ælħæsæn wɑtˤɑrɐ]; born 1 January 1942) is an Ivorian politician, president of the Rally of the Republicans (RDR), and the current President of Côte d'Ivoire. As the RDR leader and candidate, he was a candidate in the 2010 Ivorian presidential election, where he was one of the top two candidates in the first round of voting. In the second round, he faced incumbent Laurent Gbagbo; Ouattara asserted that he won the election. Most sovereign authorities outside Côte d'Ivoire, including the United Nations Security Council, accepted the validity of Ouattara's victory and recognized him as the new President-elect of the country. Gbagbo had not accepted this claim, leading to a major political crisis in the nation, which ended with Gbagbo's capture and arrest on 11 April 2011.
